CLASS associate dean named interim dean


In a Nov. 16 University Communications press release, Central Michigan University announced College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Associate Dean Marcy Taylor will be the new interim dean of the college starting Jan. 1.

Taylor will be filling in for Richard Rothaus who will be stepping into the role of interim executive vice president and provost after Mary Schutten steps down on Dec. 31. Current French faculty member Christi Brookes will be taking over interim associate dean of CLASS.

"Dr. Taylor and Dr. Brookes bring years of leadership experience to their positions and have been instrumental in the innovative approaches that have made CLASS so successful," Rothaus said in the UComm press release.

Taylor previously served as the interim dean of CLASS in 2018, before being named the associate dean in 2019. She started at CMU as an English language and literature faculty member in 1996. During her time at the university, she has served in leadership roles within the department and the assistant dean of the college. 

Brookes started at CMU in 2004 as a French faculty member. She has also served as chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures from 2012-18 before taking on the role of interim associate dean of CLASS from 2018-19.

According to the press release, Taylor and Brookes both served as CMU administrative fellows and also are graduates of Harvard Graduate School of Education's Management Development Program.
