Tonight some students will take a break from the books and put on their boogie shoes for the “Golden Gala," a formal homecoming-style event free to all students.

The event will take place from 5:30-10 p.m. in the UC Rotunda – complete with dancing, decor, dinner and a DJ.

Brianna Thiel, the SGA outreach and special events coordinator, said the Gala is a long-standing CMU tradition.

“This year we wanted to get it done sooner rather than later just to take off some stress before final exams,” Thiel said.

The Resident Housing Association, Student Government Association and Program Board collaborated to set up the event.

“It’s more of a fun social event versus going out to a party or out to Wayside,” Thiel said. “[We’re] creating that safe space where people feel more inclined to dance and have fun.”

All students are welcome to attend and may bring off-campus guests if they register through Engage prior to or at the event.

Attendees are encouraged to dress formally.
