Ridge Point High School quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. has signed with Central Michigan as part of the program's 2022 recruiting class. He made it official Wednesday during signing day.

Emanuel, a Missouri City, Texas native, visited the Chippewa campus the weekend prior to signing day, verbally committing to CMU and coach Jim McElwain on Jan. 29. He's the son of Bert Emanuel Sr., who played nine NFL seasons with five teams as a wide receiver.

"Everyone in his inner circle speaks highly of his leadership intangibles," McElwain said Wednesday in a press release. "We're very excited about that with respect to the position that he plays. He was a team captain, has prototypical measurables, and comes from an athletic family."

He played his high school ball at Ridge Point, which is classified in the highest tier of Texas High School football, 6A. Last season, the Panthers went 11-2 with Emanuel at the helm. The quarterback threw for 2,655 yards, 31 touchdowns and no interceptions according to the team's MaxPreps page.

In addition, Emanuel ran for 1,030 yards and 15 touchdowns. Before signing with the Chippewas, he held offers from Army, Abilene Christian, Texas Southern and Lamar.

Emanuel was offered by the Chippewas on Jan. 20. CMU's previous signal-calling commit, Max Brown, decommitted on Jan. 23 after taking an official visit to Florida. Brown would commit to Florida days later, making quarterback a position of need for the Chippewas' recruiting class.

Emanuel is the second member of the class coming to Mount Pleasant from Texas, joining wide receiver Jordan Kelly.
