The throwers of CMU's track and field team showed their strength at the University of Michigan’s Silverstone Invitational.

Freshman Mohogany Wells continued her dominance, setting personal bests again and posting two third place finishes. Wells came in third place in the shot put, throwing a personal best 14.32 meters. This beat her previous best of 13.98 meters at the Jack Skoog open. Wells didn’t stop there taking another third in the weight throw throwing 17.37 meters.

Wells has at least one top four finish in the last four meets she has competed at.

Freshman Kirsten Spegel was just behind Wells, finishing in fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 14.24 meters and came in sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.97 meters.

Wells and the other throwers are a huge strength on this team and ones to keep an eye on next weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

On the track side CMU saw seven top-10 finishes.

Sophomore CMU runner Emma Francis finished fourth in the 400- meter dash with a time of 59.29 seconds almost breaking her personal best of 59.22 seconds when she ran it last year at the GVSU Big Meet. This season, she is improving her time in the 400 every meet she runs it.

Freshman Lindsey Clarke finished third in the triple jump jumping 10.66 meters. Clarke has recorded now top-10 finishes in the last four meets, two of them being top-3 finishes.

Freshman Jaci Rafe finished sixth in long jump jumping 5.2 meters. She has top-10 finishes in her last five meets, and as a Chippewa has never recorded a finish outside of the top-10.

Sophomore Tricia Pierce finished sixth in the pole vault measuring at 3.61 meters.

The team will now travel to Kent, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, a two-day event spanning Feb. 25-26.
