Fourth-quarter slump costs women’s basketball against Buffalo

GENERAL: Despite double digit scoring performances by multiple players, the CMU women's basketball team fell to the Buffalo Bulls by a score of 82-74, Saturday Feb. 5 in McGuirk Arena. This loss takes the Chippewas record to 4-17 on the season.

Although Central Michigan (4-17, 2-10) women’s basketball was without Tiana Timpe and Kalle Martinez against Buffalo, the Chippewas held the lead early in the fourth quarter on Saturday. 

However, the Bulls (14-7, 8-3) strung together an 11-0 run to erase the CMU advantage and secure an 82-74 win in McGuirk Arena. Buffalo swept the season series 2-0. 

Buffalo’s Dyaisha Fair led all players in scoring with 29 points while adding five assists. Summer Hemphill led the Bulls in rebounds with 15, in addition to recording 17 points. 

Junior guard Molly Davis led CMU with 25 points and five assists. Senior Jahari Smith recorded a double-double notching 18 points and 13 rebounds. 

The Chippewas welcome Kent State to McGuirk Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Golden Flashes lead the season series 1-0.
