CMU wrestling wins 10th straight match

Defeating Kent State 32-9, Central Michigan wrestling won its tenth straight match. The Chippewas are undefeated in the Mid American Conference and 11-2 overall. 

Chippewa senior Brock Bergelin and Kent State's Jake Ferri opened the match, wrestling in the 125 weight class. Bergelin would be the one to get his team on the board first, defeating Ferri 8-7.

Kent State was quick to tie it. Wrestling in at 133 pounds, Brendon Fenton would defeat sophomore Ja'Kerrion Merrit 7-3, tying the score 3-3. 

CMU graduate student Dresden Simon would regain the lead with a 12-2 victory over Louis Newell. At 149 pounds, Kent State's Kody Komara would make the sore a close 7-6 with a 7-3 win over junior Corbyn Munson. 

Johnny Lovett, Tracy Hubbard, Bret Fedwa, and Ben Cushman would add onto the Chippewas lead with consecutive victories in their respective weight class. 

Tyler Bates for Kent State would add onto their score with a close 3-1 victory over Chippewa sophomore Cade Dallwitz wrestling in at 197 pounds. Bates victory would cut CMU's lead to 26-9.

To close out the match, graduate student Matt Stencel and Jacob Cover would take the mat wrestling at 285 pounds. Taking care of business, Stencel would pin Cover. 

The Chippewas come home to take on Buffalo at McGurik Arena in Mount Pleasant at 2 p.m. on February 13.
