Awards roundup: Demers, Potter earn MAC honors in gymnastics, lacrosse

A pair of Central Michigan Chippewas have earned weekly honors from the Mid-American Conference in their respective sports. 

Junior gymnast Hannah DeMers won MAC Gymnast of the Week, while senior midfielder Hannah Potter took home Offensive Player of the Week honors in lacrosse. 

DeMers claims the honor for a fourth time this season after yet another exceptional performance. She won the all-around and uneven parallel bars, while tying for second on the balance beam and floor exercise. 

On the season, the Canton native is ranked first in the MAC and No. 23 nationally in the all-around. She also holds the conference's No. 2 ranking on the beam and is tied for second on bars. 

Potter, meanwhile, takes home weekly honors for the first time this season after scoring five goals and notching six points in a 20-6 rout of Kent State. On the season, the Noblesville, Indiana native has scored eight goals and tallied four assists. 

The Chippewa gymnastics team clinched a share of the regular season title with its Friday victory over Kent State and will travel to Eastern Michigan Saturday for the MAC championships. CMU lacrosse, meanwhile, holds a perfect 2-0 MAC record that will be put to the test in a road matchup at Robert Morris Wednesday.
