The weekend series saw the Chippewas take three out of four games, but the success rolled over into individual honors.

Plainfield, Ill. sophomore Danny Wuestenfeld was named the Mid-American Conference baseball co-player of the week along with Toledo junior Mason Sykes.

Wuestenfeld had a career weekend against the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers as this is the first time he’s won this award.

In four games he had 15 at-bats and was able to smack seven hits and one homerun to bring in four RBI’s and five runs on a .467 average.

The first baseman was also reliable on defense, obtaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and two assists with 24 putouts.

After key players from last year moved on, look for Wuestenfeld to continue to contribute in this starting role after he largely remained as a back-up in the 2021 season.
