Alto freshman Andrew Taylor launches the ball towards home against Notre Dame, Friday, June 4. Taylor officially broke CMU’s single-season strikeout record against the Fighting Irish.

Central Michigan right-handed pitcher Andrew Taylor has earned co-Pitcher of the Week honors in the Mid-American Conference following his performance Saturday against Bowling Green.

In a 9-1 win, the Caledonia native fired 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball, allowing just a seventh inning solo shot while recording 12 strikeouts.

It's the second straight double-digit strikeout performance for Taylor, who posted his 200th career strikeout in the win. Dating back to March 20, he's won four consecutive decisions and three straight starts.

His last loss came on March 11 in a 1-0 walk-off loss to Kent State. Coincidentally, that is the last conference loss suffered by the Chippewas, as they've now won 17 straight conference showdowns.

Taylor will make his next start during the Chippewas' home series with Akron, likely in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

CMU (23-10) has won 13 straight games and sits in first place in the MAC. It returns to action Tuesday against Madonna.
