Alumnus T.R. Shaw Jr. served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, worked as a funeral director and is now an author.

Central Michigan University alumnus, T.R. Shaw Jr. is returning to host a book signing at Sleepy Dog Books on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

Shaw published his book DEFY THE IMMEDIATE, A Journey of Failure, Perseverance and Success nearly two years ago during the pandemic. Now for the first time, Shaw is hosting a book signing and presentation.

Shaw graduated from CMU and worked at Central Michigan Life as a college journalist. Several chapters of his book are dedicated to his time at CMU.

The book highlights the good and bad throughout Shaw's life including his time spent in college, working as a Navy reservist and as a Michigan funeral director. Shaw worked in collaboration with Sports Broadcaster Dick Enberg, a CMU alum, who wrote the foreword for the book.

“I’m extremely excited to help (Sleepy Dog Books) with this new venture," Shaw said in a press release. "It’s a win-win and I look forward to seeing them thrive in Mount Pleasant, along with many friends old and new.”
