The author of the Divergent book series, Veronica Roth, will speak about the role technology has in everyday life, followed by a book signing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the Plachta Auditorium.

The Central Michigan University speaker series theme this year is technology. Scott McNaught the director of the speaker series thought it was "worth a try" to have Roth speak on behalf of this subject due to numerous of her written works correlating with technology.

Members of the speaker series have been planning this event since the spring semester. When asked why this process took so long McNaught said it takes a long time to find the right person to contact.

“We had to do some searching to find out her specific personal agent, once that person was found they were super responsive,” McNaught said.

This event is open to students and the public. Sleepy Dog Books, a local bookstore, is working in collaboration with this event to advertise in the community. In addition, Sleepy Dog Books is selling Roth's most recent book, “Poster Girl”, which was released earlier this week.

Sophomore Lauren Rupe is on the executive board for program board and has worked with McNaught to plan this event.

“The responses I’ve heard people are really excited to see her come to campus because it's such a nostalgic thing, reading her books years ago and finally getting to meet her,” Rupe said.
