Grand Rapids freshman Luke Elzinga warms up to punt against FIU, Saturday, Sept. 25.

After three seasons with Central Michigan football, sophomore punter Luke Elzinga announced he is entering the transfer portal. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Elzinga announced the news on his Twitter.

Hailing from Grand Rapids, Elzinga came to Mount Pleasant in 2019, however, he didn’t see playing time until 2020.

During the 2020 season, Elzinga burst onto the scene earning All-Mid-American Conference First Team honors. He was the first Chippewa punter to earn first-team all-conference honors since CMU joined the MAC in 1975.

After another successful season in 2021, Elzinga earned a second All-MAC First Team and Academic All-MAC awards. He averaged 43.2 yards per punt, ranking second in the MAC.

In 2022, Elzinga earned All-MAC Third-Team honors. He finished the year No. 3 in the MAC in punting with a 42.2-yard average per punt.
