An audience gets ready for the show to begin during the 2018 Film Festival on Feb. 14th at the Park Library Auditorium

The 20 year anniversary of the Central Michigan International Film Festival (CMIFF) starts Wednesday, Feb. 15 and goes until Sunday, Feb. 19.

According to cmich.edu, CMIFF is a five-day annual showcase for a diverse slate of films from around the world taking place over multiple venues both on and off campus including, Opperman Auditorium in CMU's Park Library or Celebration Cinema off East Pickard Road.

Organized and staffed by students, CMIFF shines a spotlight on independent, international, and Michigan-made films, including films produced by CMU students.

“The community (and) students are all welcome to come,” CMIFF President and Assistant Festival Director Katie Higley said. “This year especially, we're trying to do things a little differently to celebrate our 20th anniversary so we're bringing throwback films for the first time, so films that came out in 2003.

“We'll be bringing ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Love Actually’. Also bringing stuff from Filmfreeway.

“So we just are bringing a host of really unique and cool films to campus and the surrounding area.”

According to cmich.edu, students who are a part of the Central Michigan International Film Festival team have the opportunity to learn skills such as event management, promotion, marketing and fundraising.

“We've had a lot of volunteers from [CMU Honors Program]. People in the RSO are more than welcome to volunteer. Students in BCA classes, but it can really be anyone you just need to be interested in doing it.”

The film schedule and venue locations can be found on cmfilmfest.com. Tickets can be purchased here.
