Although Joel Wilson didn't hear his name called during the 2023 NFL Draft, the Petoskey native will join the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent.

Due to a season ending injury against Northern Illinois back in November, the 6-foot-4 tight end saw action in nine games during the 2022 season. In his shortened season he recorded career-highs in receptions with 44 and receiving yards with 445 ranking him second on the team in those respected categories. Wilson also ranked second on the team in touchdowns with six.

Wilson ranked second nationally among tight ends in receptions and receiving yards after the ninth week of the 2022 season. He led the Chippewas in both touchdown receptions with six and yards receiving per game with 49.4.

In his breakout season in 2021, Wilson became the full-time starter as he finished the season with 31 catches for 367 yards and six downs.

In 2019, Wilson earned his first career start in the New Mexico Bowl against San Diego State.
