Officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department reported to a city hospital Saturday morning to respond to a stabbing.

According to a press release Monday morning, a man and a woman who were assaulted near the intersection of Broomfield and Mission Streets have been treated, and are in stable condition after the incident.

According to the press release, the woman received stab wounds to the back area after attempting to intervene in a physical altercation among several men. The man, who was hospitalized, was being treated for stab wounds to the chest.

“Police have determined the parties involved do not live in this area, or have any connections to the community,” according to the MPPD press release. “It is believed the suspects are no longer in the area, and there is no risk to the public.”

Because there is no suspect in police custody, the department said they would encourage anyone with information to call their anonymous tip line at (989) 779-9111 or central dispatch at (989) 773-1000.
