CMU gymnastics places second in quad meet

Central Michigan gymnastics were back on the road Friday as it took second place out of four in a quad meet at Illinois State. 

The Chippewas only lost to Illinois State (195.750) and outscored Texas Woman’s University and Greenville University with a final score of 194.000. 

Sophomore Luciana Alvarado-Reid took first in the all-around, competing in all four events and finishing with a score of 39.225. 

Alvarado-Reid was also the top performer of the day with her floor routine scoring a 9.90, a new career best. 

Junior Lia Kmieciak and Alvarado-Reid tied for best performance on uneven bars with a score of 9.85. 

The performances led to Central Michigan having the best overall score on bars, posting a 48.975. 

Other performers for the Chippewas include senior Hallie Hornbacher with a 9.850 for her floor routine. 

Alvarado-Reid took the top score on balance beam with 9.800. However, the struggles on beam continued for CMU as the event was its lowest score of the day, posting a 47.775.

The Chippewas will face their first Mid-American Conference opponent as they travel to Ypsilanti on Friday to compete against Eastern Michigan at 6 p.m.
