On Friday, March 15, the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support will be hosting Unveiling the Future: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Symposium.

The symposium is sponsored by the Provost’s Office and Innovation and Online. There will be over 10 different events happening between 9 a.m and 4 p.m, such as keynote speakers, faculty breakout sessions and panel discussions.

“This event marks the pinnacle of a year-long initiative,” said Gabrielle Likavec, a consultant for the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support. “We are excited that students will be able to learn directly from our plenary sessions, but also experience the impact of the faculty breakout sessions in their classes.”

Likavec said that the breakout sessions are faculty focused, but students can attend some of the other events going on such as:

  • The opening keynote by Asim Ali, a professor at Auburn University, at 9 a.m, discussing how AI is changing higher education,
  • A plenary session with Amy Hinchey, a senior project marketing manager at Microsoft, at 1 p.m, discussing emerging technology she’s seen working for Microsoft and
  • A panel at 3:10 p.m with Asim Ali and facilitators of the faculty learning communities discussing how AI impacts higher education, society and CMU as a whole.

All of these events will be occurring in the French Auditorium, and they will all be available via livestream for those who can’t attend.

“This event underscores our commitment to fostering an environment of educational innovation and excellence in teaching and learning,” Likavec said.

Students can view the symposium’s full schedule and register to attend on the event webpage.
