Central Michigan University International Film Festival (CMIFF) is an annual student-run event that features independent, international, Michigan-based and student-made films.

Films in this year's festival are: "Wicked Little Letters," "Perfect Days," "Hong Kong: Final Days of Freedom" and 65 others.

The festival is taking place from April 3 to April 7, showing films in four locations: Celebration Cinema, Opperman Auditorium in Park Library, Broadway Theater and Mid Michigan College.

The filmmakers party will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 6 at Art Reach.

Patty Williamson, the director of the film festival, said the tradition started in 2003 when a group of students were interested in bringing independent films to Mount Pleasant. The goal was to bring some of their student-made productions and have them on the big screen.

This year, there were 270 entries for features and short films, Williamson said. They were reviewed and selected by a group of students, community members and alumni.

“CMIFF is unique because it's student organized, and there's films for everyone, like family friendly quirky romance dramas and a little bit of everything,” Williamson said.

Tickets cost $8 and can be purchased online or at the doors. Students and seniors may purchase tickets at a discounted price of $5. The tickets for the filmmakers party is $25, with all proceeds going to support CMIFF.
