Skalitzky takes commission seat, unofficial results show
For Ryon Skalitzky, the second time was the charm.
Preliminary results of Tuesday’s Mount Pleasant City Commission race placed the 40-year-old electrical groundman and truck driver ahead of his challenger, 34-year-old automotive General Sales Manager Seth Blackey. With all three precincts counted, Skalitzky earned just shy of 60 percent of the votes (860), while Blackly received 574 ballots (39.75% ).
Skalitzky will replace John Zang, who was appointed in February to temporarily fill a seat left vacant by the January departure of then-mayor Bryan Chapman.
The commissioner-elect ran for Isabella County Drain Commissioner in November 2024, has volunteered for signature-gathered and canvassing efforts, and now serves as the Concert Committee chair for the Broadway Theater.
He did not immediately respond to calls for comment, but in a previous questionnaire to Central Michigan Life, Skalitzky said he was running for commission to “be able to better help the community.”
He wrote that his top three priorities for the commission included: addressing the city’s housing issues; improving the government’s working culture; and engaging constituents to collaboratively find solutions to the community’s needs.
