The Central Michigan University's Student Government Association officials will be attending various classes and registered student organization meetings this semester as part of their new "pop-out" program.
At the General Board SGA meeting on Monday, Vice President Kathryn House announced that SGA officials would attend the Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates’ (SAPA) event at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14. SAPA is a paraprofessional student organization with a 24/7 crisis help line for domestic violence.
“We pop out to an event that an RSO is having, not to go and like toot our horns, not to go and say anything, but just to be there,” House said. “Just to go for support and to aim to promote and increase engagement for that RSO's event.”
House said that the first few pop-outs have been successful, and it is rewarding to see higher attendance numbers at these chosen events.
She also said that they have started to do classroom pop-outs, but she said that more information will be released soon.
SGA aims to highlight resources on campus
SGA has recently kicked off its Resource of the Month campaign, intending to highlight underrepresented resources around campus. Its Resource of the Month for October is SAPA.
“I wanted to highlight underrepresented resources that you don’t always hear about on campus to make sure everyone know that these resources are at your fingertips, and you’re able to utilize them at any point,” House said.
At the General Board meeting, SGA performed an activity called the Student Voices Spotlight. The goal of the activity was to have SGA members brainstorm how the association can better students' experience on campus
Responses for this activity ranged from changing the food in the dining hall, helping the financial aid office, to adding more dumpsters across campus.

House told Central Michigan Life about the new plans that SGA has for this semester.
“We also plan to have President MacKinnon, Provost Lancaster and Dr. Shawna Patterson-Stephens at an SGA meeting,” House said. “To talk about some things going on in the world and on our campus, having some sort of town hall vibe thing.”
She said that SGA hopes to have another Executive Roundtable event, because its first one was successful.
