Central Michigan’s D1 Men’s Club Hockey team faced a disappointing return to the ice Sunday afternoon as they were defeated by the Toledo Rockets, 1-13.
It was their first game since Nov. 15 when they faced off against the Northwood Timberwolves. After a pair of frustrating losses, the Chippewas looked ahead to this road showdown with nearly a month to rest and prepare.
CMU took on Toledo early this season, when the Rockets came into Mount Pleasant and conquered the Chippewas 5-1. However, the results of this rematch would not fall in Central Michigan’s favor.

Forward Nick Messier of Toledo opened the scoring a mere ten seconds into the game, a play that set the tone for the rest of the matchup. The Chippewas faced defensive woes all afternoon, allowing five goals in the first period and five more in the second, ultimately facing a 0-10 deficit by the second intermission.
Three players for the Rockets would finish with hat tricks on the day, while Central Michigan frantically searched for opportunities to get on the board.
They found the net for the first time midway through the third period, with sophomore forward Joshua Romine stealing away the puck and quickly firing for the score. This became Central Michigan’s first goal since their takedown of Northern Michigan on Nov. 8.
After enduring this loss and falling to 2-18 on the season, the Chippewas have a chance to redeem themselves in their upcoming games against the University of Michigan-Flint.
CMU will begin this two-game series on the road on Dec. 12, before returning to Martin Arena the following day, when they will additionally host a meet and greet charity open skate.
