After suffering a close loss in the 2024 home opener, the Central Michigan men's basketball program was ready to get even against Stony Brook as the squad headed to New York.

However, revenge was not on the menu as Stony Brook secured a dominant 78-55 victory to hand CMU its third straight loss.

The Chippewas move to 3-7 on the season.

Stony Brook wasted no time jumping out to a quick 17-4 lead through the first 5:27 as CMU's offense struggled to find consistent looks at the basket, a theme that continued much of the game on the back of the Seawolves' relentless defense.

The squad from Mount Pleasant found its rhythm temporarily as the squad battled back to make the game 24-16, but the eight point deficit was as close as it got after a quick three from Stony Brook guard Jonah Butler launched another scoring run giving the Seawolves the 41-16 lead.

CMU went into the locker room down 44-22 at halftime, with the offense shooting 37% from the field compared to Stony Brook's 58.6%.

The Chippewas looked much improved out of halftime on both sides of the ball as the offense was able to draw fouls in the paint, leading the team to 15 attempts from the free throw line in the second half, compared to the first half where the squad did not make it to the charity stripe once.

However, the maroon and gold faced significant struggles from beyond the arc, finishing 3-23 from three at the games end.

Central Michigan continued to struggle in the paint as the squad was outrebounded 45-18 by the Seawolves.

However, even in the loss, the bright spots were evident as the squad polished up an early season turnover problem, dominating Stony Brook 20-8 in the turnover battle.

Nick Mullen led the team in scoring with 14 points, shooting an efficient 5-8 from the field while also tallying three rebounds and three assists.

CMU men's basketball has a chance to get back in the win column as the squad returns to Mount Pleasant to take on Olivet on Dec 17 at 7 p.m.
