Editorial: A thank you letter to you, CM Life reader
This week has been both exciting and important for us at Central Michigan Life as we wrapped up two big things: Giving Tuesday and CM Life’s 106th birthday.
First, the staff of CM Life wants to thank each and every one of you who supported our paper financially this Giving Tuesday.
We rely on our advertising revenue and your donations to fund student salaries and expenses, such as printing, equipment, travel and office supplies.

Your donation helps raise the next generation of journalists and supports the mission of the student press. At CM Life, we are getting real-world, professional experience.
The journalistic excellence of our work continues to be recognized, as CM Life received its 20th Associated Collegiate Press editorial Pacemaker this fall. CM Life is also a Pacemaker 100 recipient, placing us in the top 10% of all college media companies in the country.
We have been delivering high-quality journalism to Central Michigan University and Isabella County for the past 106 years,.
In fact, Isabella County has only one daily newspaper, making it at risk of becoming a news desert. CM Life can satisfy the need for information and cover events and issues in places where large newspapers don’t usually go.
Besides the community service the newspaper provides, CM Life has become a second home for all of us.
A staff of over 60 reporters, photographers, designers, videographers and account managers has become a true family. CM Life is our safe space to grow, filled with support, friends and inspiration.
But we also know that this connectiveness and family-like culture has been fostered by generations of journalists long before us. On Dec. 2, CM Life celebrated its 106th birthday – over a century of high-quality reporting, community service and talented journalists who started their path at our college newspaper.
That’s why, in this editorial, the current staff of CM Life also wants to express our gratitude to you, alumni, for the program we’ve inherited, for the standards you’ve set and for the culture you’ve left for us.
As we say, CM Life is for Life.
