Mount Pleasant City Commission proposes plans for 2026
The Mount Pleasant City Commission reviewed the goals and objectives met in 2025 and the intended plans for 2026 at the meeting on Jan. 12.
City Manager Aaron Desentz presented information from different departments within the city. One of the goals met in 2025 was the development of training programs and leadership programs, specifically for new hires within the city, said Desentz.
One goal that has been pushed into 2026 for completion is an economic plan aimed at promoting collaboration with stakeholders who want to implement economic changes that create growth and opportunities.
“What I had envisioned with this plan was to be able to come back and identify underutilized properties within the city, identify the economic development tool that would best suit that,” said Desentz.“What I wanted to do was be very pinpointed in the right incentives for the right sort of property."
Desentz mentioned that another goal within financial management included more grant opportunities. He said that the Grant Coordinator, Lauren Baker, has been successful in 2025 with working through the CHILL grant for Home Improvement Projects.
Goals and objectives for 2026 included promoting community development and housing, such as improving transportation and accessibility on Mission Street.
The public safety department is also aiming to implement a leadership development program and training within the police department, and with improvements to firefighter training and professional development.
Plans to further the changes to the current PRD on the vacant land at Broomfield and Crawford Street are also listed in the 2026 goals.
