CRIME LOG: CMUPD responds to assault, drunk driving cases

The Central Michigan University Police Department combatted crimes all over campus in the past couple of weeks. It responded to cases such as larceny, assault, and operating while intoxicated (OWI).
Dec. 21
At 2:15 a.m., police responded to a 20-year-old male subject driving while under the influence. When officers arrived at the scene, they realized they already contacted the subject earlier at Wayside. CMUPD explicitly told the suspect not drive, but the subject decided to do it anyway. He was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated misdemeanor.
Dec. 28
At 1:28 a.m., CMUPD responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Crawford Road. When officers made contact with the driver, they realized the suspect was intoxicated. The suspect was a 25-year-old male, and he was arrested and charged with an OWI misdemeanor.
Jan. 12
At 2:25 p.m., CMUPD were dispatched to Moore Hall over some commotion. They found a disorderly 23-year-old male and conducted an investigation; the subject was a student. Officers decided to trespass the student from the campus.
Jan. 15
At 1:19 p.m., police responded to a 22-year-old male who had an expired license plate. When the male was pulled over, the responding officer realized that his license was also suspended. The suspect was cited for the offense.
At 11:04 p.m., a 20-year-old female student reported that she was being harassed by her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend. None of the harassment was in person or physical, only through a phone. The investigation is still ongoing.
Jan. 17
At 12:22 a.m., there were reports of destruction on the Kulhavi front sign in lot 42. CMUPD did a video review and located the vehicle that hit the sign. They contacted the driver and completed the report. Apparently, the driver spun on the ice, lost control and hit the sign. No one was harmed.
Jan. 18
At 2 a.m., CMUPD responded to a light pole being damaged in parking lot 46. The suspect was a 21-year-old male, and he was cited for leaving the accident site.
Jan. 19
At 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a call from a 21-year-old male who was assaulted by four other men near Emmons Hall. The caller lost his AirPods during the encounter, but he decided not press charges.
At 10 a.m., CMUPD visited Warriner Hall because of an act of larceny. The item that was missing was a room number sign. The suspects were found to be a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male; neither of them was a student on CMU's campus.
At 3:43 p.m., an 18-year-old female called CMUPD because her cash was stolen in Emmons Hall. Her roommates were taken aside for questioning, and the investigation is still ongoing.
