Broken glass in two residence halls, a late-night hit-and-run near Graduate Housing and an arrest tied to outstanding warrants were among the incidents Central Michigan University Police Department responded to this February. The reports detail property damage, theft and traffic-related offenses that occurred across campus in recent weeks.

Feb. 8: At 3:40 a.m., CMUPD responded to a call about malicious destruction of property on the first floor of Sweeney Hall. When police arrived at the scene, the fire extinguisher glass was broken and there was blood on the floor. Police checked the cameras and found the suspect, who is a 19-year-old man.

He was sent to student conduct for review.

Feb. 14: At 1:50 a.m., there was a call about a hit-and-run accident on Bellows Street and Fancher Avenue. A vehicle ran a stop sign, hit a bench and left damage near Graduate Housing on campus. The vehicle eventually took off, but CMUPD tracked down the 22-year-old male suspect.

He said he was drinking heavily, but due to the situation being the night before police arrested him, he was only charged with leaving the scene of the crime.

Feb. 18: CMUPD responded to a call at 4 p.m. at Celani Hall. The victim, a 20-year-old woman, called police about her laundry being stolen from the laundry room the Thursday before. There are no cameras in the laundry rooms, so there is no suspect identified.

Feb. 19: CMUPD responded to another malicious destruction of property to the glass on a fire extinguisher in Herrig Hall, there was no camera, CMUPD called to clean up the glass and fix it.

Feb. 22nd: At 9:44 p.m., a 22-year-old man was stopped for expired registration. CMUPD found that he had a couple of warrants out of Grand Rapids and was arrested.

If you see suspicious activity on campus, call 911 in an emergency or contact CMUPD at 989-774-3081 for non-emergencies.
