Fatima Malik is sworn in as the new Student Government Association Chief of Staff during the association’s Feb. 2 meeting.

Fatima Malik was sworn in as the new Student Government Association (SGA) chief of staff during its meeting on Feb. 2. She filled the last senate position available for this semester.

As chief of staff, Malik will handle legislative entities, membership and attendance concerns for all SGA members as well as record meeting minutes. She serves as an advisor and assistant to the vice president.

Through a vote of unanimous consent, Samantha Prince was elected as a Student Budget Allocation Committee (SBAC) representative. Prince was the only candidate, and the position was open to any Registered Student Organization representative. She will help make choices about where SGA and SBAC money goes.

The association currently still has vacant associate justice positions and a Speaker of the House position available this semester.

The Intent of Candidacy form for the 2026-2027 elections was released Feb. 2 at 8 a.m. and closes Feb. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Anyone interested in being president, vice president, a senator or an associate justice will need to complete the form. It's available on Engage Central.

Elections Director Carson Cooley said there is a change to this year's form regarding the 200 signatures needed for president and vice president candidates.

“Last year you were going to submit the form, collect your signatures and then be notified if you're eligible,” Cooley said. “[This year] we're making this process a lot smoother, where we're going to have you be notified of your eligibility status before you collect signatures.”

Those eligible who collect and verify 200 signatures will officially be candidates.
