CMU volleyball opens conference play with loss to Eastern Michigan

Last season, the CMU volleyball team snapped its nine-game losing streak at home against Eastern Michigan.
On Tuesday night, the Chippewas hoped to repeat history, this time with a 13-game skid.
They had no such luck.
CMU opened Mid-American Conference play with a loss to Eastern Michigan on Tuesday at McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas are now 0-14 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
After coming out hot in the first set, it looked like CMU had a chance to snap their losing streak.
The Chippewas charted five aces in the set and led 18-14. Then, they were tied at 20 with the Eagles.
The Eagles wouldn’t allow CMU to take the win, though, as they closed the set with an 11-2 run.
This 25-20 set loss was the closest Central Michigan came to a win the remainder of the night. The team in maroon and gold dropped the next two 25-14 and 25-15, respectively.
Errors were an issue for the Chippewas throughout the match. CMU had 18 attack errors, while the Eagles had only four.
Eastern Michigan performed best offensively in the second set, hitting .464 compared to CMU’s .067.
Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Cripe led the Chippewas on offense with 13 kills, followed by sophomore right side Karla Sanchez-George, who had seven.
Freshman outside hitter Alexis Carper led on the defensive side with 10 digs.
Freshman middle blocker Brenna Storz had two aces, and the Chippewas had a total of seven throughout the night.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to take on the Ohio Bobcats.
