PRINT-A-THON

Art and Design Professor Johanna Paas hosted the Art and Design PRINT-A-THON, Thursday, Oct. 12, in Wightman 148. CMU students and Alumni could design, carve, print, make collages, enjoy snacks, and trade prints with other artists.

Homecoming: Battleship

CMU Office of Student Activities and Involvement hosts Battleship as part of Homecoming Week events Thursday, Oct. 12 at the Student Activity Center Pool. Teams used buckets to toss water into their opponents' boats with the goal of sinking them. Team Borpe won the tournament, who consisted of Beddow Hall and Thorpe Hall.

Homecoming Cornhole

Central Michigan University continues the festivities for homecoming week by hosting a cornhole tournament, Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Student Activity Center on campus. CMU students from residential halls and across campus teamed up and played against other students and residential communities for the title of the top team.

Distinguishing Latin Culture & Embracing Diverse Identities

The Distinguishing Latin Cultures & Embracing Diverse Identities Hispanic Heritage Month event was held Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Bovee UC Auditorium. The event was hosted by sophomore Vincente Vargas and Multicultural Academic Student Services. In the presentation, Vargas described what different identifying terms meant and discussed stereotypes and assumptions. At the end of the presentation, Vargas had a Q and A panel of students that included juniors Frida Gisselle Ferrusquia and Lizbeth Perez and freshmen Eduardo Memije-Ramirez and Megan Fisk. The panel shared things like their experiences with micro aggressions and stereotyping and what makes them proud of their identities. "Growing up it was kind of hard finding who I am," Fisk said. "I definitely want to keep growing and learn more about my culture."

Abel Lecture Series: Jeffrey Veildlinger

Award winning Jospeh Brodsky Collegiate Professor of History and Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan, Jeffrey Veidlinger, discusses his book In the Midst of Civilized Europe: The Programs of 1918-1921 and the Onset of the Holocaust, Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Opperman Auditorium in the Park Library. Those who attended the lecture had the opportunity to learn about Veidlinger's life experiences.

Mini Competition

The Isabella Bank Institute for Entrepreneurship hosts the New Venture Challenge kick-off and Ideation Challenge as an opportunity for students to think of and present ways to improve the student experience on campus, Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Grawn Hall. The New Venture Challenge is open to all students and is an opportunity for students to win money, allowing them to start their own venture through workshops and other events.

"Leaves of Grass" Reading

Central Michigan University students and faculty gather for the 16th Annual Walt Whitman Leaves of Grass Reading, Friday, Oct. 6, in Fabiano Botanical Gardens. The early morning poetry reading was an opportunity for students to take turns reading aloud poems written by poet Walt Whitman.

The Birds Opening

Central Michigan University's production of The Birds had opening night on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Theatre-On-The-Side in Bush Theatre. Senior Chloe Price, senior Will Jewell, junior Erik Phipp, and freshman Mackenna Kofahl star in the play. The show runs Oct. 5-7 & 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 8 & 15 at 2 p.m.

New Venture Challenge and Kick-Off

Soccer VS. Buffalo

Central Michigan's women's soccer team faced off against Buffalo, Thursday, Oct. 5 in the Multipurpose Complex. The teams tied 2-2, with goals scored by CMU graduate student midfielder Claudia Muessig and CMU redshirt junior forward Jaelyn Dobrowolski.

Volleyball Beats Toledo

Central Michigan's volleyball team beat Toledo 3-0, Sunday, Oct. 1 in McGuirk Arena. Senior middle blocker Austyn DeWeese was player of the game after recording five kills and five blocks in her first career start. The win brings the team's record to 2-3 in conference play and 8-9 overall.

Volleyball Falls to Toledo

The Central Michigan volleyball team competes against The University of Toledo on Saturday, Sept. 30, in McGuirk Arena. CMU fell to UT in the first of the two games, with the final score of 1-3.

Field Hockey Vs Lindenwood

The Central Michigan Field Hockey team plays against Lindenwood University, Sunday, Oct. 1, at Cristy Freese Field. CMU fell to Lindenwood, with an overall score of 1-2.

Football CMU Vs Eastern Michigan

Central Michigan's football team defeated Eastern Michigan 26-23, Saturday, Sept. 30 in Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The stadium had its largest attendance record since 2016 with 28,323 fans. The win starts the teams' conference record with 1-0 and brings their overall record to 3-2.

Program Board hosts magician John Rotellini to perform as part of Friends and Family Weekend Saturday, Sept. 30 in Warriner Hall. Rotellini, who lives and performs in Las Vegas, Nevada, performed a variety of tricks that left the audience stunned.

Women's Soccer VS. Western Michigan

The CMU women's soccer team faced off against WMU for their fourth game of the season, Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Multipurpose Complex. Central Michigan University lost to the WMU bronco's 1-3.

Field Hockey VS. Appalachian

Central Michigan's field hockey team fell to Appalachian State 3-1, Friday, Sept. 29 at at Cristy Freese Field. Freshman forward Zoey Emrick scored the only goal for CMU unassisted. The loss brings the team's record to 0-3 in conference play and 1-8 overall. CMU will play Lindenwood at home, Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. in Cristy Freese Field.

We Do Lunch & Learn

University of Communications hosts 'We Do Lunch & Learn,' on Monday, Sept. 25, in the Bovee University Center. The Lunch & Learn was an opportunity for participants to learn about the campaign strategies for attracting potential students to CMU's campus.

Ballet Folklorico de la Luz and Multicultural Academic Student Services host a Ballet Folklorico Performance as part of Hispanic Heritage Month events, Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Townsend Kiva Theatre. Dancers from Ballet Folklorico de la Luz, an RSO at CMU, performed various styles of the traditional dance form.
