Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies

More than 2,500 athletes from across Michigan marched onto Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium Thursday, May 30, for the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games. The games comprised 90 contests, ranging from bocce ball to powerlifting, and celebrated friendship, inclusion and athletics at the highest level. The ceremonies included the presentation of the colors, an introduction of each area, speeches, music and the ceremonial lighting of the olympic torch by participating athletes and members of   Law Enforcement Torch Run. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the games.
