GALLERY: Lysistrata

Central Michigan University's Department of Theatre and Dance performs and rehearses classical Greek comedy "Lysistrata", directed and adapted by Joshua Brewer Feb. 2-5 in Townsend Kiva Auditorium. The comedy, which follows a group of women who withhold sex from their husbands in order to achieve peace in times of war, was originally written in 411 BC by Aristophanes, but has been adapted to take place in the Woodstock Era.

The Multicultural Academic Student Services Office hosts keynote speaker, Jonathan Rosewood Thursday, Feb 2 in the UC Auditorium. This is the first event to kick off Black History Month, with many more events to come in the month of February.

CMU Women's basketball loses 60-74 to Toledo on Wednesday, Feb. 1 in McGuirk Arena. The team celebrated the start of Black History month with Equity and Inclusion Night and wore special warmups to honor the night.

GALLERY: SGA Town Hall

The Student Government Organization hosts a town hall with members of Central Michigan Universities' administration. The panel consisted of Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Reneé Watson, President Dr. Bob Davies, Senior Vice Provost Dr. Dave Patton and Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President Dr. Shawna Patterson-Stephens who discussed different topics regarding student life on campus.

CMU brought back its traditional Toilet Paper Toss on its fortieth anniversary before CMU's men's basketball game against Western Michigan Saturday, Jan. 28 in McGuirk Arena.  CMU basketball legend Dan Majerle was honored before the game and kicked off the Toilet Paper Toss with his son Max Majerle, CMU's freshman guard. McGuirk reached maximum capacity with a record-breaking 5,425 fans in attendance. CMU beat Western Michigan 70-69.

GALLERY: Gymnastics vs BGSU

The Central Michigan University Womenu2019s Gymnastics Team wins against the Bowling Green Gymnastics Team with a score of 194.100 to 193.775 Friday, Jan 27 in McGuirk Arena. This event was also a part of the CMU Gymnastics promotional events where fans were encouraged to wear pajamas, and scrunchies were given out to the first 500 fans.

CMU Counseling Center hosts Pause for Paws Friday, Jan. 27 in the Bovee University Center. Students can come visit therapy dogs from Therapy Dogs International every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month in the UC terrance rooms.

GALLERY: Dreidel Night

Hillel at CMU hosts Dreidel Night, Thursday, Jan. 26 in the Biosciences Building. Students had the chance to learn and play dreidel.

GALLERY: Women's Basketball vs Ohio

CMU women's basketball wins 69-66 over Ohio on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in McGuirk Arena in a close finish. With 8 seconds remaining and a score of 69-66, Ohio missed a three-pointer that could have tied the game.

GALLERY: Holocaust Remembrance Event

As part of Jewish Heritage Week, with more events occurring from Jan 23-Jan 27, Hillel at CMU hosts Holocaust survivor, Irene Miller, to speak to CMU students Wednesday, Jan 25, in the Biosciences Building. Irene Miller spoke on her experiences in the Holocaust and her life today.  

GALLERY: Men's Basketball vs BGSU

The Chippewas lost their game against the Bowling Green 83-61, Jan. 24, in McGuirk Arena. This loss puts CMU at 7-12 placing them in 8th place in the MAC.

GALLERY: Jewish Cultural Food Night

Hillel at CMU hosts Jewish Cultural Food Night as a part of Jewish Heritage Week Tuesday, Jan. 24 in the Bovee University Center. Participants learned about the importance of food to Jewish culture and got to try different dishes, such as matzah and bagels with cream cheese.

Program board hosts magician Kevin Li on Monday, Jan. 23 in the Plachta Auditorium in Warriner Mall. Li's performance invited many audience members on stage throughout the performance to participate in his tricks.

GALLERY: Soup and Substance: Antisemitism in the US

Hillel at CMU hosts Soup & Substance - Antisemitism in the U.S. where people can enjoy some Matzo Ball Soup and listen to a conversation on Antisemitism from Hillel International speaker, Maddi Jackson, Monday, Jan 23, in the UC Rotunda. This event is a part of the Jewish Heritage Week, with more events occurring from Jan 23 - Jan 27.

For the start of the new semester, students arrive from all over the world. To make friends and connections they gather at the welcoming event on Jan., 21 at the Bovee Univerisity Center.

GALLERY: Gymnastics vs NIU

The Central Michigan University Gymnastics Team wins against the Northern Illinois Huskies with a score of 195.425 to 193.600, Saturday, Jan 21, in McGuirk Arena. This event was also a part of the CMU Gymnastics promotional events where kids were able to get in for free and had face painting and a bow-making station.  

GALLERY: MLK Week Charity Basketball Game

Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts the CommUNITY MLK Charity Basketball game, Friday, Jan. 20th, in the Student Activity Center. The game was students against staff, and staff won with a score of 49-43. Spectators were encouraged to bring items to donate to the CMU Student Food Pantry.
