Baseball, softball teams win 2016 Dick Enberg Team Leadership Award

The Central Michigan baseball and softball teams announced on Twitter they earned the 2016 Dick Enberg Team Leadership Award.

It is the second time in four years that the softball team has won the award. The last time the baseball team had the honor was in 2011.

This award was created in 2007, along with the Dick Enberg Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

The Team Leadership Award is awarded to a team that has a good overall grade-point average, academic progress rate, community service, athletic performance and commitment to excellence.

To win the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, the student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 GPA, perform with distinction and be considered a team leader.

Dick Enberg, a Mount Clemens native, is a sports broadcaster for the San Diego Padres. He graduated from CMU in 1957 and also played baseball for the school.
