Former James Madison third baseman Tyler McFarland has joined the Central Michigan baseball team as a volunteer assistant coach.

According to Head Coach Steve Jaksa, McFarland will be coaching the catchers and hitters. He will also serve a base coach and help run camps with the team.

McFarland played under his father, Joe, at James Madison. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 10th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Entry Draft.

He was also a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Associate at James Madison. The left-handed hitter from Illinois batted .315 during his time at James Madison and was placed on the Freshman All-American team in 2011.

"(McFarland) has gained a lot of knowledge and understanding of the game through his dad, who was a successful coach himself at the college level," Jaska said. "We welcome Tyler and are excited to have him on board."
