In his first collegiate start, junior tight end Tyler Conklin had career high receptions, his first two touchdowns and earned a national award following Central Michigan's 30-27 win over Oklahoma State.

Conklin was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week after hauling in seven receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns.

The national award is given to a collegiate tight end who had the best performance in the previous week's games.

One of his touchdowns came on a one-handed, juggling grab in the corner of the end zone to tie the game 17-17 late in the third quarter.

Conklin joined CMU's football team as a walk-on after transferring from Northwood University. He played basketball for one semester. He was given a scholarship in 2016 and earned a starting spot in CMU's upset victory against then No. 22 Oklahoma State.

The L'Anse Creuse North graduate was recruited by CMU to play football, but decided to pursue basketball instead.

Conklin was one of four Chippewas who won an award following last week's contest, joining senior quarterback Cooper Rush, junior cornerback Josh Cox and quarterbacks coach Morris Watts.

CMU hosts UNLV at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
