Marcus Keene earns MAC West Player of the Week

As if Marcus Keene needs more recognition.

The junior guard for Central Michigan's men's basketball team picked up his fifth Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honor for this season.

Keene scored 28 points in a win against Bowling Green on Jan. 24 and then scored 41 points including 11 in overtime as CMU topped Kent State on the road Saturday.

The 40-point performance was Keene's fourth of the season, which is the most such games since Jimmer Fredette did so in 2010.

During the week he averaged 34.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists, leading CMU to a 2-0 record. The Chippewas have won four out of their last five and are now one game out of first place in the MAC West.

Keene leads the country in scoring at 30.3 points per contest and is on pace to breaks CMU's all-time record for most points scored in a single season. He's also one 30-point game away from having the most 30-point career games for a Chippewa.

CMU takes on Buffalo Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
