Christi Brookes named CHSBS interim associate dean

Christi Brookes will become interim associate dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences starting Jan. 16, according to University Communications.

Provost Michael Gealt announced on Jan. 11 the appointment of Brookes, who has served as chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures since 2012.

CHSBS Dean Pamela Gates will retire effective Jan. 15. Current Associate Dean Marcy Taylor will serve as interim dean beginning Jan. 16.

Brookes’ experience at CMU started in 2004, teaching French and later expanded to teaching Russian.

In addition to the world languages and cultures department, Brookes has also chaired the Shared Governance and Communication Committee and ACE Internationalization Lab.

Brookes has also served on the Academic Senate and is currently serving on a committee tasked with searching for the CMU’s Chief Diversity Officer.

At CMU, Brookes has won awards for teaching and volunteers with a migrant rights group in Arizona.
