Central Michigan’s loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday evening had an all-too-familiar feeling.

The CMU volleyball team was swept by Eastern Michigan University, the same way they lost when they faced the Eagles on Sept. 22.

This loss puts the Chippewas at 0-17 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-American Conference. Eastern Michigan is now 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

The second set showed signs of hope for the Chippewas, as they lost by only two points.

Early in the set, a kill by sophomore outside hitter Taylor Cripe made it 10-5 in CMU’s favor.

The Eagles slowly fought back, taking the lead 20-16. CMU would not go away, though.

Later in the set, they went on a 6-0 run to make it 24-23, CMU.

Ultimately an Eastern Michigan kill gave the Eagles this one, 26-24.

CMU lost 25-20 in the first set. The Eagles took control in the last set and defeated the Chippewas 25-10.

Sophomore libero Rainey Weidman picked up a career-high of 15 digs in the matchup. She has set a new career-high in the last three games.

Cripe charted 10 kills, followed by senior outside hitter Jaliyah Cohnes and freshman middle blocker Brenna Storz, who had four apiece.

Hackney had 13 assists and picked up 2 aces.

Junior middle blocker Teyhlor Thompson had four blocks in the match after being out with an injury since Sept 4.

The Chippewas are on the road again this Friday as they take on the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
