Comedian Jimmy Fallon mentions CMU, squirrel CPR story on 'The Tonight Show'

Central Michigan University has made late-night television.

Jimmy Fallon, host of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," mentioned the story of Grand Rapids freshman Natalie Belsito, who saved a squirrel from drowning on March 27 via CPR.

Fallon joked about the story during his monologue of his April 3 show, which airs on NBC.

"A student at Central Michigan University performed CPR on a squirrel that was found drowning in a campus pool," Fallon said. "Even more strange, the squirrel was winking at his friends."

Belsito said the television show, "The Office," was her source of inspiration when it came to performing CPR on the squirrel in an interview with Central Michigan Life.

Her story has since been told in national outlets TIME and HuffPost.

Belsito said she didn't expect any media response to her actions.

"This experience has been crazy," she said. "I hope it encourages others to help others — doesn't have to be a squirrel. It can be people, too."
