The Central Michigan golf team took first place at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Tuesday at Katke-Cousins Golf Course.

The championship was the first tournament title in team history for the Chippewas.

At the six-team invitational hosted by Oakland, the Chippewas finished with a team score of 614. Green Bay took second with a score of 615, while the host Oakland shot a 620 to finish in third. As a team, CMU shot a 309 Tuesday afternoon, overcoming a one-shot deficit at the hands of the host Grizzlies.

Four CMU golfers finished in the top 10 of the tournament individually. Freshmen Claudia Salvador, Padgett Chitty and Zoe Varytan each finished in the top five. Salvador tied for third with a total score of 153 to lead the team. Junior Megan Deardorff tied for seventh.

Coach Jim Earle and the Chippewas next hit the links in Ypsilanti for the Eastern Michigan Invitational, which runs from September 30th to October 1st.
