City police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a male suspect who assaulted a man during a strong-arm robbery on Halloween.

The robbery took place at 6:38 p.m. Oct. 31 at Wild Side Smoke Shop, 1218 South Mission St., according to a news release issued by Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Police said a store employee recognized the male suspect from previous incidents of stealing from the store. The suspect was reportedly in the back of the store attempting to steal items, and the male employee approached the man to take the items out of his pocket.

During an attempt to flee the store, the suspect began to fight with the store employee. Video surveillance released by MPPD shows the suspect fighting the store employee for about 20 seconds before fleeing the store.

Police said there was an unidentified woman in the parking lot waiting for the male suspect, who reportedly also took part in the assault against the store employee. MPPD Public Information Officer Autume Balcom said detectives are working on getting more information about the female suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin build, police said. He was wearing glasses, blue jeans that were tucked into cowboy boots and a bright blue Nike hooded sweatshirt at the time of the assault.

Police do not believe there are any safety concerns for the city of Mount Pleasant.
