CMU students lead the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. CommUNITY March from the Bovee University Center on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019.

The students of Central Michigan University will be thrilled to wake up for the second Monday morning of the semester and not have any classes. But you still have responsibilities.

Monday, Jan. 20 marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Central Michigan University’s campus. It is a scheduled day off to encourage students to learn about civil rights history in our country.

This Monday don’t sleep in and watch movies all day. Take this opportunity to better yourself by participating in your community, learning about civil rights reform and honoring King’s legacy.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed on the third Monday of each year and has been since the 80s when it was signed into law as an American federal holiday. Hopefully, we don’t have to explain to everyone how important King was as a civil rights activist, leader and face of the Civil Rights Movement.

CMU offers many different ways to get involved on campus on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and throughout the week. Here is the schedule for the week’s activities, organized by Multicultural Academic Student Services:
