Provost Mary Schutten named Paula Lancaster as the next dean of Education and Human Services.

Lancaster’s appointment was announced by the university on Jan. 15, and she begins July 1. She will receive a salary of $220,000 per year.

“Dr. Lancaster is an excellent addition to our leadership team as CMU embarks on a strategic envisioning process,” Schutten said in a press release. “Her strong background in strategic planning will serve her college and the university well.”

Lancaster worked as a director of teacher education at Grand Valley State University since 2015. She was the inaugural chair of GVSU’s special education, foundations and technology department.  She will also serve on the Academic Senate and Academic Planning Council.

After serving as interim since July 1, 2018, Betty Kirby was named dean on July 1 but announced her retirement Aug. 26, six days after she was named to the new position.
