Armed Forces Appreciated

Alpha Chi Rho has honorably initiated Armed Forces Appreciation Week at Central Michigan University.

The four-day event mobilizes students to write and send letters to soldiers serving overseas. Letters are also being accepted at the fraternity's house.

With all the election coverage lately, oversea coverage has been on the back burner. We cannot let our soldiers' efforts go unrecognized.

The organizer, a CMU student, scheduled the event during election week so people can focus their intensity from the election toward the conflict in Iraq and remember it is anything but over.

Since so many young people are on the fighting lines, it is important that youths support each other. So many know siblings, cousins, neighbors and friends who are serving our country.

In our appreciation of their efforts, we should do all we can to remind them we remain supportive.

Writing letters, sending gifts or iconic U.S. foods - everyone loves popcorn - is such a small thought that goes a long way.

Let's join Alpha Chi Rho in honor of those who serve and prove the youth in our nation appreciate their efforts.

Armed Forces Appreciation Week runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3 to 7 in the Bovee University Center.

Along with Armed Forces Appreciation week, there will also be a special military appreciation ceremony before the CMU home football game against Ball State on Nov. 19.
