Sports Update: Volleyball loses in MAC semis

The volleyball team had its run ended for a Mid-American Conference Championship as they lost to Ohio 3-1 in the semifinals.

The Chippewas provided an equal fight throughout the match, but OSU was able to take control of the match when it mattered and advanced to the championship.

“It was an epic battle between two awesome teams,” said coach Erik Olson. “It looked like a match between two top 10 teams.”

Central fell behind early in the match, losing the first set 25-20. However, the team was able to rally back and win a close 32-30 second set.

After losing the third set, CMU looked as if they might be able to force a fifth set with a 23-21 lead in the fourth. The lead slipped though, as they lost the match and ended their run.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Krupsky and sophomore middle blocker Kaitlyn Schultz led the team with 16 kills.

The Chippewas have one match left in the season on Friday against Marquette.

“We played our hearts out tonight,” Krupsky said. “We had great swings and great serving. There were just a few things here and there that could have made the game go in our favor.”
