Sports Update: Volleyball sweeps Kent State in Rose

The volleyball team proved not to be haunted by their three-set loss Thursday as they swept through Kent State on Halloween night.

Freshman outside hitter Katie Schutte impressed the home crowd Saturday in her first career start for the Chippewas with 12 kills and an attack percentage of .611.

“I thought I played really well tonight,” Shuette said. “The people around me set me up to be successful.”

Schuette put a cap on the three-set victory with the final point spiked directly at the Golden Flash defense.

“After the loss to Eastern Michigan we just had to put insert some new blood into the lineup,” said coach Erik Olson. “Our team always rallies around it.”

Junior outside hitter Lauren Krupsky led the floor with 15 kills and two aces. She took control of the third set for CMU as served up eight consecutive points giving the team an early 11-2 lead.

“The team preformed really well,” Krupsky said. “We came out with a totally different mindset then what we had against Eastern Michigan.”
