Sports Update: Volleyball sweeps Northern Illinois

The volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday night with a sweep against Northern Illinois Saturday in Rose Arena.

The 3-0 victory gives the Chippewas an 8-8 Mid-American conference record, as the team finishes the regular season tied for second in the West division.

“The team could have made the wrong decision on how to approach this game after losing to Western,” said coach Erik Olson. “But they didn’t. The showed excellent character and came away with the win.”

After taking the first set 25-17, CMU won the final two matches in overtime including a second set in which the NIU had three set points. The final score was 25-17, 29-27, 27-25.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Krupsky led the floor with 17 kills, and sophomore middle blocker Kaitlyn Schultz hit for a .471 attack percentage.

The Chippewas now have a two-day break before hosting the first round of the MAC tournament Tuesday in Rose Arena. Time and opponent is to be determined.
