Baseball team wins one of three in opening weekend
The CMU baseball team opened the season 1-2 over the weekend in Bakersfield, Calif.
It beat St. Mary's College 3-1 on Sunday after losing 7-6 to Cal State-Bakersfield on Saturday and 9-4 to California on Friday.
Senior second baseman Ricky Clark went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, while sophomore first baseman Nate Theunissen had three hits and a run.
Junior pitcher Jake Sabol pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits, one run and striking out four.
The Chippewas play Central Florida this weekend, with games at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in Orlando, Fla.
The team opens its home season March 16 against Davenport.
