SGA Speaker of the House Kyle Walker presents the agenda to representatives on Aug. 31 over WebEx.

While most of the Student Government Association was settling into their committees and rules, the Academic Affairs committee hit the ground running.

Coming out of the gate, the SGA Academic Affairs Committee is developing two pieces of legislation: the ongoing green space plan where Barnes Hall once stood and a proposal for Hyflex classes to be available in the future year-round.

"We have made legislation (and developed a project to) make a green study area for students to be, hang out, and do different things," Academic Affairs chair Brandon McDonald said.

It would also possibly include solar-powered picnic tables, hammock stands, and donated sculptures from the art department, he said.

Academic Affairs is also working on delivering exam kits to everyone attending Central Michigan University in a dorm, which adds up to roughly 4,600 kits, McDonald said. They are working with the Office of Student Success and Residence Life to complete the project. Along with physical kits, they are working on a virtual package to be sent to every enrolled student regardless of location.

The Student Budget Allocation Committee introduced different requirements this year for student organizations in order to get funding. SBAC will only fund virtual events, such as movie showings, speakers, and possibly virtual conferences, said SBAC chair Namita Chauhan.

SGA's House of Representatives is currently searching for a House Pro Tempore, who will take on clerical duties such as taking notes during the meeting and filling in for the Speaker of the House, Kyle Walker, if he is absent.

SGA is still looking for future representatives to complete the membership form on Engage Central. If an RSO does not complete the form and send a representative, they are ineligible for SBAC funding. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, September 7. SGA will not meet on this date due to Labor Day.
