Former Central Michigan men's basketball player Deschon Winston has opted-out of the 2020 season and will explore opportunities away from CMU, coach Keno Davis said following the Chippewas' 91-39 win over St. Francis Dec. 14.

"It's kind of the way college basketball is right now," Davis said. "Now, in college athletics, there's gonna be transfers. Not every school is the right place for each. I think the world of (Winston) and wish him the best in the future."

In one season with the Chippewas, Winston, a Woodland Hills, California native, played in each of their 32 games, starting seven. He averaged 5.9 points per game along with 2.3 assists. Before coming to CMU, Winston played one season at California and one at the City College of San Francisco.

The reason for Winston's decision was to give him another year of eligibility for when he decides to transfer. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Winston is one of two players from last year's team who decided to transfer following the season, the other being forward Romelo Burrell.
