Christine MacDonald's second season at CMU will have her team starting at the top.

The Chippewas' gymnastics team has been selected to win the Mid-American Conference regular season and postseason championship as voted by the seven coaches within the league, the conference announced Thursday.

CMU beat out Northern Illinois by a single point while the top four were spread out by four points.

Last season, CMU was third in the conference when the season was shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak with a 5-5 overall record and 3-2 in MAC competition.

Western Michigan was named the conference champion last season as it was leading the standings at the time of the season's cancellation.

This season, CMU is slated to host three meets in McGuirk Arena -- Feb. 11 against Northern Illinois, Feb. 28 against Bowling Green and a quad against Ball State, Eastern Michigan and WMU on March 13.

The MAC Championships are scheduled for March 20 at Western Michigan -- where it was scheduled to take place last season.

CMU opens the season with a dual at Ball State on Jan. 24.

Here are the results of the 2021 MAC gymnastics preseason poll:

1. Central Michigan -- 34
2. Northern Illinois -- 33
3. Western Michigan -- 32
4. Kent State -- 31
T5. Eastern Michigan -- 26
T5. Ball State -- 26
7. Bowling Green -- 14
